Addition


(1) Rahul has 8 pencils. Sonu has 7 pencils. How many pencils do they have altogether?
Ans:- Number of pencils Rahul has = 8 Number of pencils Sonu has = 7 Total number of pencils both Rahul and Sonu have = 8 + 7 = 15 Thus, they have 15 pencils.
(2) Farida plucked 4 apples. Sita plucked 6 apples Both put them together. How many apples are there now?
Ans:- Number of apples plucked by Farida = 4 Number of apples plucked by Sita = 6 Total number of apples plucked by both Farida and Sita = 4 + 6 = 10 Thus, Farida and Sita have 10 apples now.
Subtraction

(1) Sohan’s mother brought 9 bananas from the market. She gave 4 bananas to Sohan. How many bananas was she left with?
Ans:- Number of bananas bought by Sohan’s mother = 9 Number of bananas given to Sohan = 4 Number of bananas left with Sohan’s mother = 9 – 4 = 5 Thus, 5 bananas were left with Sohan’s mother.
(2) Rahim had 8 flowers. He put three flowers in a vase. How many flowers was he left with?
Ans:- Number of flowers Rahim had = 8 Number of flowers put in the vase = 3 Number of flowers left with Rahim = 8 – 3 = 5 Thus, Rahim was left with 5 flowers.
